Environmental Enlightenment #219

November 4, 2014

This is a SHORT, LIGHT and SIMPLE newsletter. Its purpose is to rekindle in the initiated terminology they have once learned, and enlighten the uninitiated on terms they may have heard but never knew the meaning of.

One Useful Environmental Database

Here’s a data-packed site that provides handy information on environmental conditions of sites of interest.

Real-estate brokers, attorneys and investors can glide through it fast to identify items of interest.

It is managed by the SWRCB, State of California Water Resources Control Board, a sub-agency of Cal-EPA: http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/

SWRCB operates the GeoTracker database: http://geotracker.waterboards.ca.gov

GeoTracker tracks regulatory data about:

  • Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Cleanup Sites
  • Other Water Board Cleanup Sites
  • Land Disposal Sites
  • Military Sites
  • Permitted Underground Storage Tank (UST) Facilities

GeoTracker contains data from all of California. This makes it an important resource to both regulators and the public.

Click on http://geotracker.waterboards.ca.gov

This window will show up

Enter an address of interest.

For example, I entered our office address:

From here you can zero in on any site of your interest in the vicinity: expand the map and click on the square of your choice and a whole world of records on that site will open up.

Call me any time to assist your navigation. You will find this maze to be friendly and simple to navigate once you’ve tried it two or three times.

GeoTracker demonstrates how regulatory personnel, responsible parties, and all stakeholders can efficiently access the same data and an identical set of analytical tools. The readily accessible database results in less duplication of effort and improved communication between stakeholders.

You can find past issues of our "Environmental Enlightenment" at amiadini.com Wealth of information about environmental site assessments in the real estate transactions and issues concerning assessment and cleanup of contamination in the subsurface soil and groundwater.

Call me if you have any questions. There are no obligations.
