Specifics of Expertise:

UNDERGROUND/ABOVE-GROUND STORAGE TANKS: Installed USTs/ASTs in over 200 sites. Work included installations of state-of- the-art double wall tanks, electronic tank monitoring systems, electronic tank level monitors, inventory management systems, tank integrity tests, hydrostatic tests of piping, Phase I and II vapor recovery systems, etc. Removed tanks from hundreds of sites.

ENVIRONMENTAL SITE ASSESSMENTS: Managed, supervised, and performed over 1,000 Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments.

GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION: Managed the installation of groundwater monitoring wells, groundwater sampling and measurement of water gradient.

LEGAL/REGULATORY COMPLIANCE: Managed the regulatory permitting of over 1000 UST compliance projects. Managed the permitting and regulatory interfacing of over 200 soil and groundwater investigations.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES OR WASTE: Managed the excavation, loading and disposal of soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons and lead. As part of hazardous wastewater treatment system expertise, designed and installed over 16 systems for reduction of the volume of hazardous waste generated through filtration, water extraction, and centrifugation. Constructed a hazardous waste storage facility. Designed a hazardous waste containment for a drum storage facility.

REMEDIAL INVESTIGATIONS: Investigated plumes of contamination in soil in over 60 UST leaking sites and over 30 otherwise contaminated sites.

SITE OR PROPERTY CHARACTERIZATION: Supervised and performed hundreds of Phase II environmental site assessments for leaking UST sites and otherwise contaminated properties.

SOIL CONTAMINATION: Conducted remedial investigations and handled contaminated soil, mostly by excavation and disposal in certified landfills in twenty sites. Typical soil contamination included petroleum hydrocarbons, lead, cadmium, and creosote.

PCB's: Tested various suspect sites for the presence of PCBs. Analyzed findings of PCBs in a metal shop investigation. Reviewed remedial alternatives for reduction of PCB contamination in a Superfund site.

ENGINEERING: Apprenticed as Operation Engineer with a 30MW nuclear reactor. Participated in the supervision and inspection of construction of very large underground tanks for storage of liquid nuclear waste. Supervised and inspected installation of underground asbestos-cement utility water mains. Inspected the design of underground asbestos-cement firewater mains. Inspected the installation of mineral wool and fiberglass heat insulation. Fabricated and replaced the internals of very large cooling towers of a nuclear reactor. Specified, designed and fabricated assemblies containing molded lead. Managed the production of a shop manufacturing lead made components. Coordinated the design and supervised the construction of a central utilities plant for a university complex.

ENGINEERING, CHEMICAL: Supervised construction of a metal extraction plant. Specified forced air cooled water cooling towers. Regenerated and started up a system of water ion exchangers. Coordinated the design and supervised the construction of a Chlorine manufacturing plant which involved: diaphragm cells, brine ponds, chlorine compression, liquid chlorine storage, caustic soda manufacturing and storage. Designed components for a phosphoric acid plant. Supervised the design and specified components for an alcohol plant. Designed an acid formulation mixing plant. Constructed a hazardous chemical storage facility. Designed a hazardous chemical drum storage area. Specified equipment for a polyester film manufacturing plant. Participated in the startup of a boric acid manufacturing plant.

ENGINEERING, CIVIL: Coordinated the design and supervised the construction of a firm landfill base in the marshes of the Dead Sea for a Chlorine manufacturing plant. Designed a fire suppression system for an asphalt refinery.

ENGINEERING, ENVIRONMENTAL: Designed, constructed and started up, including operator training, over 16 hazardous wastewater treatment plants in California, Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, Arizona, and in the Philippines. Specified equipment for three to five desulfurization plants for coal fired power plants. Remediated five to seven sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons and lead.

ENGINEERING, INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES: Managed the production of a shop handling chemical finishing of stainless steel products. Managed the production of a spray paint finishing shop. Managed the production of steel and stainless steel machine shops. Constructed a new metal plating facility.
