Environmental Database Series #2
This series presents Internet-based data bases that are useful in obtaining information on environmental conditions of properties. These sites have traditionally been constructed for the use of regulators. Environmental consultants use them routinely in their research. Real estate lenders, developers, attorneys and redevelopment professionals will also find there most valuable data. If you need help in understanding certain information or terminology, please do not hesitate to call me. I’ll be happy to give you a hand.
WRCB is the California EPA Water Resources Control Board, accessible through its internet site at http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/index.html

WRCB maintains the GeoTracker database, accessible through the internet at http://geotracker.swrcb.ca.gov/search/

In the above Address Search window:
LUFT means “Leaking Underground Fuel Tank”
SLIC means “Spills, Leaks, Investigation & Cleanup.” The SLIC Program deals with site investigation and corrective action involving sites not overseen by the LUFT Program.
UST means “Underground Storage Tanks.”
GeoTracker tracks regulatory data about underground fuel tanks, fuel pipelines, and public drinking water supplies. GeoTracker contains well, tank, and pipeline data from all of California. This makes it an important resource to both regulators and the public.
GeoTracker demonstrates how regulatory personnel, responsible parties, and all stakeholders can efficiently access the same data and an identical set of analytical tools. The readily accessible database results in less duplication of effort and improved communication between stakeholders.
A set of on-line tools allows the user to integrate well specific and contaminant site specific information to give users the potential to analyze various aspects of vulnerability. In other words, GeoTracker gives users the ability to assess potential threats to their drinking water sources.
