Subsurface Soil Gas Vapor Investigations

There are cases of spills of toxic volatile organic solvents that vaporize in the subsurface soils and travel long distances in this fashion. These vapors then can go upward and penetrate indoor spaces where people live or work.

The situation can be explored easily through sampling of the vapors in the subsurface and sampling of the air indoors. In serious cases, the problem can be mitigated through the installation of subsurface barriers or through suction of the vapors such that they lose the power to penetrate the building, or combination of the two methods.
